Preston, Julieanna. "Wedges and Shims: Levering a Feminist Interior Practice.” In Interior Tools, Interior Tactics: Debates in Interior Theory and Practice, edited by Fleming, Hay, Hollis, Milligan, Plunkett, 264-274. Oxfordshire: Libra Press, 2011.
In this book chapter, I outline an emerging feminist interior practice situated at the confluence of gender, politics and technology. The wedge/ shim is exercised as a multi-purpose low-tech building device, to emphasize the instrumental nature of tools to ‘make work’. Three pieces of my creative practice research are discussed in light of this instrument’s facility to employ feminist strategies towards theorizing and constructing an interior.
